We promote co-existence between humans and wildlife, provide livelihood opportunities for women and communities, and involve youth in environmental and wildlife conservation projects. We are committed to fostering a healthy ecology, empowering communities, and promoting sustainable coexistence. Through our wide range of initiatives, we work to empower communities, protect the environment for coming generations, and foster a world in which people, wildlife, and nature coexist peacefuly.
"At WASIMA, our innovative programs and community engagement efforts are at the heart of wildlife preservation and environmental protection."
The increase in population and human activities in the landscape has led to an increase in land use changes and increased interaction between people and wildlife. This results in challenges such as human-wildlife conflict, and habitat degradation. The Human-Lion Coexistence Program in Katavi and Ugalla Ecosystem aims to address the challenges; of habitat encroachments, livestock predation, and retaliatory and non-retaliatory killing of lions arising from interactions between local communities and lion populations. This initiative promotes coexistence and creates a balanced approach to wildlife conservation and community well-being.
The Habitat Conservation Program is dedicated to preserving our natural habitats by implementing strategic activities to mitigate threats such as human-lion conflicts, poaching, encroachment by livestock and humans, and wildfire outbreaks. These efforts are crucial for preserving biodiversity, protecting natural habitats, and ensuring the sustainability of ecosystems.
Our Environmental Education and Outreach Program is dedicated to raising awareness and promoting conservation through community engagement and educational initiatives. We address human-wildlife conflicts, habitat degradation, non-retaliatory and retaliatory lion killings, poaching, and encroachment by enhancing community knowledge and fostering positive changes in conservation practices, behavior, attitudes, and perceptions toward wildlife and habitat conservation.
We understand that sustainable conservation efforts are intrinsically linked to the well-being of local communities. Our initiatives focus on enhancing livelihoods through sustainable practices, providing alternative income sources, and promoting eco-friendly resource use. By improving the quality of life for community members, we reduce the reliance on activities that harm wildlife and their habitats.
Our Community Livelihood Program is dedicated to creating a peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.
