WASIMA operates in the least studied, least visited, and least supported landscape of western Tanzania, covering approximately 85,000 km² in size, with 85% of the area reserved as protected land and the remaining 15% comprising open areas, settlements, and agricultural land. With our current strategic plan, we focus on community-led conservation approaches to promote coexistence between humans and lions, as well as other wildlife, within the interconnected Rukwa-Katavi-Ugalla-Mahale-Kigosi ecosystem of western Tanzania. WASIMA has the potential for collaboration and partnership with interested institutions and individuals on our in-the-field and/or research activities:
2.1 Institutional Partnership
Join WASIMA in shaping the future of conservation. As an institution, you can co‑establish new community‑led projects or help scale up our existing programs to maximize impact.
• Virtual or in‑person consultation
• Tailored to your event (date, theme, title)
• Compensation: $100 per hour
• Event fee: $10,000 (check payable to WASIMA)
• Return transport, visa, insurance, and accommodation covered in advance
2.2 Research Collaboration
WASIMA is committed to advancing conservation science that is both contextual and rigorous. We invite independent researchers, institutions, and postgraduate students to collaborate with us on wildlife studies.
